Local Schools Netball Rally Winners 2024!

Local Schools Netball Rally Winners!

On Thursday 2nd May 2024, our year 5/6 netball team took part in the Local Schools Netball Rally and WON!!.

This is the first time that Woodlea has won a netball competition, and it is made all the more special because of how the team has grown.  Miss Southwell, who leads and coaches the team with Mrs Howell, said that she had never seen the team play with such confidence. We are all so proud of every member.

Match report from the children:

“On Thursday 2nd May 2024, some of our year 5 and 6 pupils took part in a netball tournament.

Firstly, we played a match against Audley.  It was a competitive game and Olivia scored in the second half winning 1-0.   The next game we played was against Whyteleafe, it was a tough game that ended 2-2 with Darla scoring both goals.  The third match was less nerve wracking as we played St Francis and won.  Olivia scored 3 and Phoebe scored 1 and secured us a place in the semi-finals.

In the semi-finals we played against Hamsey Green and won with a score of 3-1.  Olivia scored 2 goals and Pippa scored 1, that meant that Woodlea went through to the finals.

The final was extremely tense, we played against Whyteleafe, who had amazing defence.  For the first half Whyteleafe scored 1 goal, but our team were determined and kept on going.  In the final half Darla managed to score 3 goals!  This meant that Woodlea netball team won the tournament and were rewarded with the shield.”
